COURSE OVERVIEW

Our 200-hour Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training is a 22 day intensive program designed to:

The course curriculum is comprehensive which includes yoga philosophy, yogic lifestyle and ethics, yogic diet, anatomy and physiology for yoga practitioners. based on Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, It is tailor-made for you to teach with confidence the asana classes according to the Ashtanga Primary Series and Vinyasa flow style.

Sthira Yoga is experienced in the traditional teaching of yoga which can be applied to present day needs. We encourage you to explore and be creative in your teaching style. At the end of the course you will be able to sequence your own Vinyasa flow with various themes, in addition to practicing and teaching the Ashtanga Primary Series.

COURSE DETAILS

  • Our Asana curriculum is a combination of 3 Ashtanga and 3 Vinyasa Flow classes per week. You will also practice short vinyasa flows and Yin Yoga.

    Ashtanga Yoga Primary series is a pre-set sequence of postures linked by the breath, focus point (Drishti) and bandhas. Vinyasa Flow is a creative and artistic expression, flowing from one posture to another synchronised with the breath. The Vinyasa classes are designed to complement the theory you learn in your teaching methodology and sequencing classes.

  • You will explore functional yoga anatomy to deepen your yoga practice. The classes ensure an understanding of the key muscles and bones involved in asana practice and the associated benefits and contraindications.

    This course covers:

    • Basic concepts related to movement.

    • Application of anatomical principles to yoga practice.

    • Emphasis on the skeletal system, muscular system, connective tissue and movements of the major joints of the body.

    • Study of the foot, knee, hips, spine and shoulder.

    • Introduction to the Nervous System.

    • Introduction to the Digestive system. It’s connection to Hatha Yoga cleansing techniques.

    • Introduction to the Endocrine system. Its connection to emotions and chakras.

  • During the course, you will have daily workshops focused on alignment and adjustment techniques for the main postures of the Ashtanga Yoga primary series and a few advanced postures. These workshops include modifications, advanced variations, appropriate use of props, posture clinics (arm balances, backbends, inversions), and regular hands-on adjustments practice.

    These classes will bring safety, awareness and mindfulness to your practice and teaching. Discussions about injuries and misalignment are also addressed.

    Acquire the knowledge, practice and teach that which contributes to others learning. Our YTTC is a practical training course designed to help you become a confident yoga teacher. Opportunities are given to teach one-on-one and then progress to teaching larger groups. Feedback from teachers and your classmates are given to help you improve.

    Principles of sequencing will help to plan and structure a class. Principles of demonstration include observation, verbal instructions, teaching styles, qualities of a teacher, voice projection, class presence, alignments and hands-on-adjustments, dealing with injuries and safety precautions.

    Yoga alliance guidelines on ethics, business aspects of teaching yoga and other connected topics.

    Teaching skills include:

    • how to demonstrate asanas

    • how to maintain group energy

    • how to modify asanas

    • how to work with a mixed-level class

    • how to give verbal instructions

    In this module we will examine number of yoga postures in terms of:

    • correct alignment helpful for beginner practitioners.

    • aim / goal of each pose helpful for intermediate practitioners

    • common misalignments

    • modifications with and without props

    • advanced variations for experienced students

    • hands-on adjustments with opportunities to practice on peers and receiving feedback

  • You will learn the theory and practice of:

    • all important seven Pranayama practices.

    • Jala Neti (nasal cleansing technique)

    • different meditation techniques (breath, mantra, mudra, metta, Chakra and vipassana)

  • The Yoga Philosophy section covers the following topics and in addition to application of Philosophy in asana practice and daily life. There will be a number of interactive sessions to understand complex philosophical concepts.

    History of yoga, Vedas and six systems of Indian philosophy

    Ashtanga yoga (Raja Yoga): core of yoga philosophy

    Karma and Dharma

    Nadis (energy channels), Chakras, Kundalini

    Mudras, Bandhas & Kriyas

    Concept of Gunas and their applications in daily life, connection to food

    Introduction to the four paths of yoga

    Lifestyle and ethics for a yoga practitioner and teacher

    Emotional empowerment and emotional self-sufficiency through applied Yoga Philosophy

  • In this class, the teacher will explain how to develop:

    • your career as a yoga teacher

    • how to set up your own studio, school or a yoga retreat centre

    • marketing strategies

    • ethics in yoga business

    • building a network with other yoga teachers, schools, studios and retreats, among other related topics.
